Does Unplugging Your Electronics Really Save Money?

We have all heard that if you unplug electronics when you're not using them, you will save money on your electric bill... but is this really true? According to YahooGreen it is common knowledge that appliances continue to draw a small amount of power when they are switched off and still plugged in. The fact is, yes it will help you save money, but can be annoying and difficult to remember. Some easy ones to remember are cell phone and laptop chargers, but the big electronics like T.V.s and gaming consoles can be harder to do. Your gaming consoles like PS3's and X-Boxes can use the same amount of energy when sitting idle or playing games, so remember to unplug those. One easy solution is to plug everything into a power strip, then you can switch everything off at once.

There are some other ways to save money on your electric bill with out unplugging everything. Set the power save mode on your computer, it will use less energy and is better for your computer by helping it run cooler. Wash your laundry in cool water, it will cut down on the work load of your hot water heater, and is better for the life of your clothes. And the fail safe, shut off the lights when you leave a room.

Happy savings!
